The metal caps protect the device from light (diffused PN transitions on the sensing element are sensitive to UV light) and the sensing element’s silicon coating from dust.
They can be pressed onto the relevant metal ring on the MS5540 and MS5803 (substrate 6.2 × 6.4 mm).
